10 Top Home Remedies to get rid of Diarrhoea and Constipation Fast

iarrhoea and constipation, two common ailments have to be avoided by regular and healthy eating. Home remedies are always the better option as it helps you to take control of your health, especially when you are a busy person and have very little time to devote to this.

You should have regularity, healthy food, avoid processed and junk food and do yoga and exercise a couple of times a week. Diarrhoea and constipation can be very harmful to your health if not treated or managed.

Here are some home remedies for diarrhea and constipation that can be very effective.


1. Bitter melon

This is one of the best natural herbs for treatment of constipation. It is known to soften the stool and ease the bowel movement.

Method: Mix 1 tablespoon of Bitter melon juice and 1 teaspoon of black pepper powder in a glass of water and drink it. For the more severe constipation, you can also boil one to two cups of Bitter melon juice to make a decoction and add this decoction to your daily food, preferably first thing in the morning or last thing at night.

2. Yarrow

Also called the “mother of healing” this herb is an invaluable remedy for piles. A study showed that Yarrow has anti-inflammatory properties and is very effective for relieving both constipation and painful haemorrhoids. Yarrow is used both as a tea and as a tincture (liquid extract from the herbs, and used as an antiseptic and in cases of severe infection). Yarrow is available in health food stores. Method: Pour 2 cups of boiling water over 3 tablespoons of fresh Yarrow flowers and leaves in a bowl. Cover and steep for 15 minutes. Strain and cool. Drink half a cup of this mixture every morning on an empty stomach, a half hour before your breakfast.

3. Rosehip

Rosehips are a great source of vitamin C and have also shown to relieve constipation. Method: Mix the rosehips in water to make a pulp and drink half a cup every morning on an empty stomach.

4. Cucumber

Cucumbers, a refreshing beverage that are often recommended by doctors to drink to relieve diarrhea. This is a natural way of curing diarrhea, it will help to keep your intestine clean, regularity and provide you with a well-hydrated body. There are two kinds of cucumber juices, plain cucumber juice and pickle. Pickle is made by boiling cucumber in vinegar and some spices and herbs. Method: Add one slice of cucumber to 2 cups of water. Cover the container and leave it to soak for a couple of hours, then strain and drink half a cup three times a day. If your stomach starts hurting after the first time, it means that you have ingested too much. If it starts hurting after the second time, it means that you have ingested too much. When you feel like taking a sip of this juice, it is the right amount. When you feel that your stomach is about to rupture, drink another cup. If you are out of this juice, just take some water and some ginger and sip on that. Method: Put 4 dried kiwifruits and ½ teaspoon of ginger into a small bowl. Pour 1½ cups of boiling water over it and let it steep for 10 minutes. Strain and drink this three times a day.

5. Ginger

Ginger is known for many medicinal benefits including relief of nausea, vomiting and flatulence. A study showed that ginger has a soothing effect on your stomach. Method: Heat a cup of boiling water in a pot and add 5 slices of ginger. Let it infuse for 10 to 15 minutes and strain and drink it after that. It can be made with the water of a steeping or a fresh juice of ginger.

6. Lemon

Lemon contains lots of Vitamin C that is very effective for treating diarrhea. Lemons also have an ability to cure indigestion and flatulence. Method: Squeeze 2 cups of lemon juice from 2 lemons and mix it with some ginger juice (the water of a fresh ginger). You can add a few drops of lavender oil to this. You can consume this every morning on an empty stomach, half hour before your breakfast.

7. Black tea

Black tea is a very effective tea for curing constipation and diarrhea. Black tea is better than any cola or tea because of the high concentration of polyphenols and flavonoids in black tea. Method: Boil 2 cups of black tea and let it cool. Drink half a cup of this tea after meals, and it will help you to stay regular.

8. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is known to relieve colic, flatulence and stomach problems. A study revealed that Aloe Vera extracts are used for treating constipation and diarrhoea. Method: Pour a cup of boiling water over a thin piece of Aloe Vera leaf. Let it sit for a few minutes and then strain and drink half a cup of this tea.

9. Fenugreek

A study revealed that the seeds and leaves of fenugreek can treat diarrhea and constipation. Fenugreek is a good source of fibre, minerals, vitamins, iron and zinc and it is usually used as a condiment or spice in various Indian dishes. Method: You can buy fenugreek from a store or you can grow it yourself. If you buy it from the store, you can add ½ tablespoon of ground fenugreek to 2 cups of water. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for 3 minutes, then let it cool. If you grow it yourself, you can take a whole tablespoon of fenugreek seed every day


10. Chlorella

This has a special healing property. It contains chlorophyll which helps to reduce the inflammation in the intestinal tract. It is also helpful in treating and preventing diarrhea and constipation.

Method: Mix one tablespoon of ground Chlorella with 1/2 cup of water and let it sit for 15 minutes, then drink half a cup every morning on an empty stomach.
