1) Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a well-known home remedy for skin issues, from acne to eczema. To treat your skin with apple cider vinegar, you can use it in several ways. You can apply it topically to affected areas as a toner or make a paste out of it and rub it on your face (be sure to dilute with water first!). You can also drink 2 tablespoons of ACV in water 3 times per day to aid digestion and aid acne. For more information on how to use apple cider vinegar to fight breakouts, visit here.
2) Aloe Vera Juice
As well as being great at soothing sunburns, aloe vera juice also helps to regulate oil production in our skin. It's best to use an organic aloe vera leaf so you don't have to worry about getting any pesticides or chemicals on your face. To get started, juice a couple of leaves and add it to your morning routine by using it as a toner. The freshness of aloe veras will wake up your skin and help it absorb moisturizers better! This is a particularly good treatment if you're prone to dryness or flakiness.
3) Tea Tree Oil
If you want to treat acne with tea tree oil, add 5-10 drops of it to 2 oz. of water and use a cotton swab to apply it on pimples. Tea tree oil is an antiseptic so its use helps kill bacteria on pimples and drys them out. It also helps reduce inflammation and redness associated with acne. This remedy may sting a little when applied, but that’s okay as long as it doesn’t burn excessively or irritate your skin. Remember to store your tea tree oil in an airtight container away from heat and light because it’s highly volatile.
4) Peppermint Essential Oil
It’s true that we need to treat acne from within in order to improve its appearance. And peppermint oil does just that, thanks to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Dilute a few drops of peppermint essential oil with a carrier oil (jojoba, olive or almond) and massage it gently into your skin in circular motions at night. Or try making a tea by boiling two cups of water and adding two drops of peppermint essential oil before taking it off heat and allowing it to cool down slightly. After allowing it to sit for around five minutes, apply it directly onto your face using cotton balls after cleansing thoroughly.
5) Coconut Oil
No matter what you put on your skin, it's important to always moisturize after you cleanse. Coconut oil has antifungal properties that work to kill bacteria, which can cause acne. If used daily, it can help keep skin clear and prevent future breakouts from developing. It also works as a makeup remover! All you have to do is rub it on your eyes and lips after removing your makeup with water. Let it sit until all of your makeup comes off (it may take a few minutes) then wipe away with a warm washcloth or hand towel. Be careful not to get any in your eyes! Some coconut oils also have SPF built in if you want a sun-protective boost during the day.
6) Oatmeal
This is probably one of my favorite home remedies. Oatmeal not only soothes irritated skin, but it also contains enzymes that naturally exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce blemishes. For best results, you should use quick oats (not instant). Add some water to make a thick paste, rub it on your face and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing off with cool water. You’ll notice a huge difference after just one treatment.
7) Lemon Juice
If you want to get rid of blemishes fast, lemon juice is your friend. It has natural antibacterial properties that can help remove redness and speed up healing time. Get a cotton ball and pour a little lemon juice on it. Then gently dab it on your pimples before bedtime. It might sting at first, but in just a few days, your blemishes will be gone or significantly reduced. Remember, though: if you have sensitive skin, you may want to reduce how much lemon juice you put on. Otherwise, it could irritate your skin and make things worse!
8) Baking Soda
Baking soda is a great natural home remedy to clear skin. Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, neutralizes skin irritants, balances pH levels and minimizes oily buildup. It’s super simple to use: just mix baking soda with water until it forms a paste, then apply to your face (avoiding sensitive areas like eyes and lips). Let sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing off. If you have acne-prone skin, consider using baking soda on its own—simply rub a paste of baking soda and water over your whole face (avoiding sensitive areas like eyes and lips) in circular motions to exfoliate dead skin cells that can cause breakouts.
